Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking, it is better to tackle the problem upfront than deal with mold or rot later. A little extra work now saves a ton of headaches down the road

Honestly, I'd say the extra caution wins here. Thinking about it now...removing it now tackles moisture issues before they become nightmares, it is much better to sweat a bit today than regret a moldy mess later
