I learned to measure twice but also just buy extra material. I learned this after three trips to the hardware store on a single project, the amount of cussing I did that day

I got to say @cordur0y the extra material thing is smart but there's always that mental battle of whether you really need that much or if you're just being paranoid, but really great tip and makes sense
