Planning to finally insulate my detached garage this coming winter so I can use it as a workshop year round. It's an older structure built in the 80s, 24x24, stick built but zero insulation currently. I'm in Zone 5 so winters get pretty cold
I've been researching options and keep going back and forth. Spray foam with closed cell would be expensive but everyone says it's best performance, I have quotes around $3,500 to 4,000 range for the whole garage. That's a lot, but I keep reading it's the do it once, do it right option plus the air sealing benefits seem legit
Then there's fiberglass batts which would be way cheaper, maybe $800 if I do it myself, but literally everyone online acts like it's outdated garbage. I'm worried about moisture issues and thermal bridging through the studs, rigid foam boards very much seems like the middle ground on price and performance but I don't know anyone who's actually used them
I'm not trying to make this a living space though, just want it comfortable enough to work in during winter without burning through propane with my heater
